Pushing off and the race begins.
After eleven previous attempts, Tony Kanaan, racing for KV Racing Technology, won the race, on a restart with three laps remaining. Kanaan overtook leader Ryan Hunter-Reay in the Andretti Autosport DHL/Sun Drop Dallara going into the first turn to win.
Big lens from up high puts you right on the track, I loved it.
Race Day we arrive early.
Then it's race time.
Also in turn 1. Notice the clean white wall at the beginning. You see where they hit and slide down the wall. Then they had to stop the race to clean the track. Sorry for the focus at first but it was a snap shot.
So much debris was on the track that the red flag came out and the race was halted for cleanup and the cars were lined up in order on pit lane till the track was cleared. Then there was a running restart.
The race was won by Ryan Hunter-Reay, the first American born winner since 2006. Hunter-Reay held off second place three time winner Helio Castoneves by a margin of 0.0600 seconds, the second-closest finish in race history. At an average speed of 186.563 mph, it was also the second-fastest 500 in history.
We were on stage as the drivers were introduced.
We noticed on the side of Hinches teammate was Get Well soon Hinch. During a practice session on May 18, Indy Car’s Holmatro Safety Team was lauded for a life-saving effort in their rescue of driver James Hinchcliffe . During a run, Hinchcliffe was involved in a major crash, and was impaled by a suspension member. The rapid response by the medical crews was credited with likely saving his life, and nine days later he was released from the hospital, expected to make a full recovery.
Finally Juan Pablo Monoya, Team Penske won his second Indianapolis 500.
