The 2016 Indianapolis 500 was presented as the Indianapolis 500’s 100th Running of the race. It was the premier event of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season. In a shocking finish, 24 year-old rookie Alexander Rossi of Andretti Herta Autosport won the race on fuel mileage.
Over the final ten laps, most of the leaders were cycling through pit stops, as no one was expected to make it to the finish without pitting for fuel. Most drivers had not pitted since the previous caution that ended on lap 166. Alexander Rossi's team took a huge gamble and coached the young driver into saving fuel. As the other leaders made their stops, Rossi inherited the lead on lap 197. He slowed down to save fuel, but on the final lap Carlos Muñoz began charging to catch up. Coming out of turn four on the final lap, Rossi pulled to the inside and literally coasted across the finish line, to take the checkered flag. Muñoz finished 4.4975 seconds behind, his second runner-up finish at Indy (2013, 2016). Rossi was out of fuel. A tow truck brought him in, believed to be the first time in Indy history the race winner was towed back to victory lane.
Getting ready for the 100th. Lining up and off we go.
2017
The 2017 Indianapolis 500, referred to as the 101st running of the 500 was won by Japanese driver Takuma Sato of Andretti Autosport, the first Asian driver to win the Indianapolis 500. Two violent crashes occurred during the month, involving Sébastien Bourdais during time trials (hitting the wall at over 200mph head on and suffered a broken pelvis and other injuries), forcing him to sit out the race and during the Race Scott Dixon landed on the inside concrete wall after being launched into the air also over 200 mph but luckily only suffered an ankle injury and bumps and bruises.

Carb Day
Last stop before his win even though his car shows he is in 7th.
2018
2018 Indianapolis 500 or the 102nd running was won by Australian Will Power of Team Penske. Car owner Roger Penske collected his 17th 500 victory. 2016 winner and one of my favorite drivers Alexander Rossi charged from 32nd to finish 4th and made the race very interesting at least for me. They also had a ARX-05 Acura on display in the infield, which is what Helio Castroneves (was my favorite active driver) is driving for Penske since leaving IndyCar series. But he is trying for his 4th win since Penske setup a car for him to race in the 500 even though he is doing the sports car circuit for Penske.
